Nuxt VPS HostingServer Rendering on Your Own Server
Nuxt builds a standalone Nitro server that runs anywhere Node.js does. On a VPS you run it under PM2 behind NGINX, with server routes, caching and your database on the same machine. We install Node.js, PM2 and NGINX with HTTPS.
Full root & SSH NVMe storage Daily backups Anti-DDoS 99.9% uptime SLA 11 locations
-
Reserved vCores and RAM
Server rendering without per-request billing.
-
Root and SSH access
Any Node version and system packages.
-
NVMe storage
Fast builds and route caches.
-
Dedicated IPv4 and IPv6
Your own addresses, anti-DDoS included.
Why Self-Host Nuxt on a VPS
Nuxt's Nitro engine outputs a self-contained Node server, so self-hosting is a first-class option. A VPS runs it for a flat price, next to your data.
-
Self-contained output
nuxt build produces .output with the server and its dependencies, ready to start with Node.
-
Server routes beside your pages
API endpoints in server/api run in the same Nitro process, with your database on localhost.
-
Hybrid rendering
Route rules mix server-rendered, cached and prerendered pages, and work the same on your server.
-
A flat monthly price
No per-invocation or bandwidth billing, with unlimited traffic in Europe and North America.
How Self-Hosted Nuxt Runs
NGINX in front, the Nitro server under PM2, and your data behind it.
Request from a browser or app (HTTPS)
-
Reverse proxy
NGINX
HTTPS, compression and long cache headers for /_nuxt assets.
-
Process manager
PM2 or systemd
Runs node .output/server/index.mjs and restarts it on failure.
-
Application
Nuxt (Nitro server)
Pages, server routes and route rules.
-
Runtime
Node.js LTS
A version your Nuxt release supports.
-
Data
Your database or CMS
PostgreSQL, MongoDB or a headless CMS.
Worth knowing
- Set PORT and HOST so the Nitro server listens on localhost only.
- nuxt generate creates a static site that NGINX serves with no Node process at all.
- Runtime config is read from NUXT_ environment variables when the server starts.
- Cache rendered pages with route rules to cut CPU per request.
What You Can Run
-
Content sites with SSR
Marketing sites and blogs rendered on the server for SEO.
-
Storefronts

-

-
Static sites
nuxt generate builds served by NGINX.

Which Plan for Your Nuxt App
Running Nuxt is light; building it is not. Size for the build if it runs on the server.
| Workload | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Static site or SSR built in CI | VPS-1 2 vCores · 4 GB RAM | Nitro and NGINX fit comfortably. |
| SSR app built on the server | VPS-2 4 vCores · 8 GB RAM | 8 GB covers builds while the site keeps running. |
| Busy SSR with server routes | VPS-3 6 vCores · 12 GB RAM | More vCores for rendering under load. |
| Several Nuxt sites | VPS-4 8 vCores · 24 GB RAM | Room for many processes and builds. |
A starting point, not a limit: every plan upgrades in place, keeping your data, IP address and configuration.
Nuxt on Serverless or Self-Hosted?
Serverless adds an edge network and previews; self-hosting adds a fixed price and no function limits.
| Feature | Serverless platform | Nuxt VPS |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Usage-based | Flat monthly plan |
| Function time limits | Yes, by plan | None |
| Server routes and database | Database as a separate service | Same server |
| Global edge network | Built in | Add a CDN if you need one |
| Preview deployments | Built in | Your own setup |
| Server administration | Handled by the provider | Yours, after our free setup |

Your First Nuxt Deploy
Build on the server and run the Nitro output under PM2 behind NGINX.
-
Clone and install
Reproducible installs from your lockfile.
-
Build
Creates the .output folder.
-
Start under PM2
Bound to localhost; NGINX proxies to it.
-
Ship updates
Pull, rebuild and reload.
# 1. Clone and install
git clone [email protected]:you/web.git ~/web && cd ~/web
npm ci
# 2. Build
npm run build
# 3. Start under PM2
PORT=3000 HOST=127.0.0.1 pm2 start .output/server/index.mjs --name web
pm2 save

git pull && npm ci && npm run build && pm2 reload web
Example commands; adjust names, paths and versions to your project. Deploying and maintaining your application is yours to do (or ask us for a quote).
Installed and Secured Before You Log In
The VPS is unmanaged: after handover the server is yours to run. Before that, our engineers do the first setup once, free, so you start from a hardened server with Nuxt in place.
-
Choose a plan and location
Pick the resources you need and the datacentre closest to your users.
-
Tell us your Nuxt setup
Versions, database and domain: at order or right after.
-
We install and secure it
Server hardened, Nuxt installed and tested, HTTPS on your domain.
-
You take over with root
SSH access to a working server, ready for your code and data.
Your Nuxt stack
- Node.js LTS, a version your Nuxt release supports
- PM2 with startup on boot, or a systemd service

Who a Nuxt VPS Suits
-
Vue developers moving to SSR
Server rendering without changing how you host.
-
Teams leaving serverless billing
Sites where usage-based bills have become hard to predict.
-
Agencies
Several Nuxt sites on one server, each its own process.
Security and Performance for Nuxt
Security
- Only public runtime config reaches the browser; keep secrets in private runtime config.
- Validate input in server routes.
- Bind Nitro to 127.0.0.1; only NGINX listens publicly.
- Keep Nuxt and its modules updated.
Performance
- Use route rules to cache or prerender pages that do not change per user.
- Serve /_nuxt assets from NGINX with immutable cache headers.
- Build in CI if builds compete with live traffic for RAM.
- Lazy-load heavy components.
