Magento VPS HostingThe Full Stack Magento Expects
Magento needs more than PHP and a database: a search engine, Redis, cron every minute and ideally Varnish. We install Magento Open Source with the services it needs on a hardened KVM VPS with reserved resources; you build and run the store.
Full root & SSH NVMe storage Daily backups Anti-DDoS 99.9% uptime SLA 11 locations
-
Reserved vCores and RAM
Magento, OpenSearch and MySQL on guaranteed resources.
-
NVMe storage
Fast indexers, static content deploys and queries.
-
Root and SSH access
bin/magento, Composer and cron without limits.
-
Daily backups
Automatic backup of the previous 24 hours.
Why Magento Needs a VPS
Magento's requirements rule out most shared hosting: it needs a search engine, Redis, cron every minute and shell access for its CLI.
-
All the services it requires
OpenSearch for catalogue search, Redis for cache and sessions, MySQL or MariaDB, and PHP with the extensions Magento lists.
-
Cron and indexers that run
bin/magento cron:run every minute keeps indexes, emails and scheduled jobs current.
-
Varnish full-page cache
Magento supports Varnish natively for fast catalogue and category pages.
-
Deploys from the command line
setup:upgrade, setup:di:compile and static-content:deploy need SSH and time, which a VPS gives you.
A Magento Production Stack
HTTPS at the edge, Varnish in front of Magento, and the search, cache and database services behind it.
Request from a browser or app (HTTPS)
-
Edge
NGINX (TLS)
Terminates HTTPS and passes requests to Varnish.
-
Full-page cache
Varnish
Serves cached pages; misses go through to Magento.
-
Application
NGINX + PHP-FPM + Magento
Production mode, compiled DI and deployed static content.
-
Services
OpenSearch + Redis
Catalogue search; cache, page-cache storage and sessions.
-
Database
MySQL or MariaDB
Catalogue, customers and orders.
Worth knowing
- Magento 2.4 needs a search engine; OpenSearch is the supported choice for current releases.
- Check Magento's system requirements for the PHP and database versions your release supports.
- Run the store in production mode; developer mode is much slower.
- OpenSearch runs on Java with its own memory, which is why Magento needs more RAM than most PHP apps.
What You Can Run
-
Stores with large catalogues
Configurable products, layered navigation and many SKUs.
-
Multi-store and multi-language
Several websites and store views from one installation.
-
B2B storefronts
Customer-specific catalogues and prices with extensions.
-
Headless Magento

-
Staging stores
A copy for testing upgrades and extensions before live.
-
Agency development servers
Development and QA environments for client stores.

Which Plan for Your Magento Store
OpenSearch, MySQL, Redis, Varnish and PHP-FPM all share the server, so RAM decides the plan.
| Workload | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Development or staging | VPS-2 4 vCores · 8 GB RAM | 8 GB fits the full stack with light traffic. |
| Small production store | VPS-3 6 vCores · 12 GB RAM | 12 GB for the stack plus PHP workers. |
| Larger catalogue or busier store | VPS-4 8 vCores · 24 GB RAM | 24 GB RAM, 8 vCores and 200 GB NVMe. |
| Very large catalogue | VPS-4 8 vCores · 24 GB RAM | Plus a second VPS for OpenSearch or MySQL as you grow. |
A starting point, not a limit: every plan upgrades in place, keeping your data, IP address and configuration.
Magento on Shared Hosting or a VPS?
Magento's requirements decide this one: most shared hosting cannot run it properly.
| Feature | Shared hosting | Magento VPS |
|---|---|---|
| OpenSearch | Not available | Installed at handover |
| Redis and Varnish | Rarely available | Installed at handover |
| Cron every minute | Restricted | Yes |
| CLI deploys | Limited or none | Full SSH |
| Resources | Shared | Reserved |
| Server administration | Done by the host | Yours, after our free setup |

Deploying Magento Changes
The usual production deploy sequence for Magento Open Source.
-
Update code and dependencies
Pull your changes and install packages.
-
Maintenance mode and upgrade
Applies schema and data changes.
-
Compile and deploy static content
Required in production mode.
-
Back to live
Flush caches and open the store again.
# 1. Update code and dependencies
cd /var/www/magento && git pull
composer install --no-dev
# 2. Maintenance mode and upgrade
bin/magento maintenance:enable
bin/magento setup:upgrade
# 3. Compile and deploy static content
bin/magento setup:di:compile
bin/magento setup:static-content:deploy -f en_US
# 4. Back to live
bin/magento cache:flush && bin/magento maintenance:disable
Example commands; adjust names, paths and versions to your project. Deploying and maintaining your application is yours to do (or ask us for a quote).
Installed and Secured Before You Log In
The VPS is unmanaged: after handover the server is yours to run. Before that, our engineers do the first setup once, free, so you start from a hardened server with Magento in place.
-
Choose a plan and location
Pick the resources you need and the datacentre closest to your users.
-
Tell us your Magento setup
Versions, database and domain: at order or right after.
-
We install and secure it
Server hardened, Magento installed and tested, HTTPS on your domain.
-
You take over with root
SSH access to a working server, ready for your code and data.
Your Magento stack
- NGINX and PHP-FPM with the PHP extensions Magento requires
- MySQL or MariaDB with a database for the store
- OpenSearch for catalogue search

Security and Performance for Magento
Security
- Apply Magento security patches as soon as they are released.
- Use a custom admin URL and keep two-factor authentication on (enabled by default).
- Keep OpenSearch, Redis and MySQL bound to localhost.
- Set file permissions per Magento's guide, with code read-only in production.
Performance
- Run in production mode with compiled DI and deployed static content.
- Use Varnish for full-page cache and Redis for cache and sessions.
- Set indexers to Update by Schedule and run cron every minute.
- Give OpenSearch a fixed heap and leave the rest for MySQL and PHP.
