Redis VPS HostingCache, Sessions and Queues in Memory
Run Redis on a server where the memory is reserved for it, beside your app or as a dedicated cache server. We install Redis with authentication on, bind it to localhost or your app servers and set a memory limit for your plan.
Full root & SSH NVMe storage Daily backups Anti-DDoS 99.9% uptime SLA 11 locations
-
Reserved RAM
Memory for your dataset that no one else can use.
-
Reserved vCores
Commands run on cores that are yours.
-
Dedicated IPv4 and IPv6
Allow-list the servers that may connect.
-
Daily backups
Automatic backup of the previous 24 hours.
Why Self-Host Redis on a VPS
Hosted Redis is priced by memory and connections. On a VPS you get the whole server's RAM for a flat price, configured for your use case.
-
Memory at a flat price
Use most of the plan's RAM for Redis instead of paying per gigabyte.
-
Persistence your way
RDB snapshots, an append-only file, or no persistence at all, depending on whether Redis is a cache or a store.
-
Low latency to your app
On the same server, apps reach Redis over localhost or a Unix socket.
-
Full configuration
maxmemory, eviction policies, ACL users and modules, without provider restrictions.
How a Redis Server Is Locked Down
Access is limited at the network and the user level; memory and persistence are set for your workload.
Connection from your application
-
Network
bind + UFW
Listens on localhost or a Unix socket; port 6379 opens only to app IPs when needed.
-
Access
ACL users / requirepass
Password authentication, with ACL users per application if you like.
-
Memory
maxmemory + eviction policy
A limit below the plan's RAM, with allkeys-lru for caches or noeviction for queues.
-
Persistence
RDB / AOF on NVMe
Snapshots or an append-only file, or none for a pure cache.
Worth knowing
- Never expose Redis to the internet without authentication: open instances are attacked automatically.
- Queues such as BullMQ, Sidekiq or Horizon need noeviction so jobs are never dropped.
- Set vm.overcommit_memory = 1 so background saves do not fail.
- Redis 7.4 and later use new licences; Valkey is an open-source fork that works as a drop-in replacement.
What a Redis VPS Is Used For
-
Application cache
Query results, rendered fragments and API responses.
-
Session storage
Fast, shared sessions for one or more app servers.
-
Job queues
BullMQ, Sidekiq, Laravel Horizon or Celery.
-
Rate limiting and locks
Atomic counters and distributed locks.
-
Real-time features
Pub/Sub and streams for live updates.
-
Leaderboards and counters
Sorted sets and atomic increments.

Which Plan for Your Redis Server
Set maxmemory well below the plan's RAM, and lower still with persistence, which can briefly need extra memory during saves.
| Workload | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cache and sessions beside your app | VPS-1 2 vCores · 4 GB RAM | A few GB for Redis alongside the app. |
| Dedicated cache or queue server | VPS-2 4 vCores · 8 GB RAM | Around 5 GB of maxmemory. |
| Large cache or several apps | VPS-3 6 vCores · 12 GB RAM | Around 8 GB of maxmemory. |
| Large datasets | VPS-4 8 vCores · 24 GB RAM | Around 16 GB of maxmemory with 24 GB RAM. |
A starting point, not a limit: every plan upgrades in place, keeping your data, IP address and configuration.
Hosted Redis or Your Own Server?
Hosted Redis adds failover and management. A VPS gives you more memory for the money and full control.
| Feature | Hosted Redis service | Redis VPS |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | By memory and connections | Flat monthly plan |
| Configuration | Provider options | Full redis.conf |
| Persistence and backups | Managed | Your choice, plus daily VPS backup |
| Failover | Built in on higher tiers | Your own setup with Sentinel |
| Latency to your app | A network hop | localhost on the same server |
| Server administration | Handled by the provider | Yours, after our free setup |

First Steps With Your Redis Server
Check the connection and memory settings, then open access for an app server if you need to.
-
Test the connection
redis-cli asks for the password.
-
Check memory settings
The limit and eviction policy we set.
-
Allow an app server
Bind to the right interface and open 6379 to one address.
-
Watch it
Memory use and latency.
# 1. Test the connection
redis-cli --askpass ping
# 2. Check memory settings
redis-cli --askpass CONFIG GET maxmemory*
# 3. Allow an app server
sudo nano /etc/redis/redis.conf
sudo ufw allow from 203.0.113.10 to any port 6379 proto tcp
sudo systemctl restart redis-server
# 4. Watch it
redis-cli --askpass INFO memory
redis-cli --askpass --latency
Example commands; adjust names, paths and versions to your project. Deploying and maintaining your application is yours to do (or ask us for a quote).
Installed and Secured Before You Log In
The VPS is unmanaged: after handover the server is yours to run. Before that, our engineers do the first setup once, free, so you start from a hardened server with Redis in place.
-
Choose a plan and location
Pick the resources you need and the datacentre closest to your users.
-
Tell us your Redis setup
Versions, database and domain: at order or right after.
-
We install and secure it
Server hardened, Redis installed and tested, HTTPS on your domain.
-
You take over with root
SSH access to a working server, ready for your code and data.
Your Redis server
- Redis from the OS repository, or Valkey on request
- Password authentication on, protected mode kept on
- maxmemory and an eviction policy for your use case
- bind and the firewall limited to localhost or your app servers
- Persistence set to match a cache or a store
Yours to run after handover
- Ongoing server administration
- Application maintenance and updates
- Debugging your code
- Migrating existing sites or data
Not included in the free setup, but we can quote for it. No control panel by default: CloudPanel, HestiaCP or Virtualmin on request at no cost; cPanel and Plesk need their own licence.

Who a Redis VPS Suits
-
Apps that need a fast cache
Sessions, caching and rate limits beside the app.
-
Queue-heavy back ends
Horizon, BullMQ, Sidekiq or Celery workloads.
-
Teams splitting services
A dedicated cache server shared by several app servers.
Security and Performance for Redis
Security
- Keep Redis off the public internet: bind to localhost or allow-listed IPs only.
- Use strong passwords or ACL users, and deny FLUSHALL and CONFIG to application users.
- Use TLS or a private tunnel between servers.
- Stay on a supported Redis release.
Performance
- Set maxmemory and an eviction policy that match the workload.
- Use SCAN instead of KEYS in production.
- Watch slow commands with SLOWLOG and look for very large keys.
- Pipeline bulk operations to cut round trips.
