Why Use CyberPanel on a VPS
CyberPanel puts a hosting dashboard on top of OpenLiteSpeed, a fast web server that reads Apache rewrite rules.
Free and open source
CyberPanel is released under the GPL-3.0 licence. The OpenLiteSpeed edition is free for unlimited domains.
Built for OpenLiteSpeed
Sites run on OpenLiteSpeed, so you get its speed and cache without hand-editing its configuration.
One dashboard for the basics
A file manager, webmail, DNS, FTP, one-click backups and restores, and Docker management are all in the panel.
Optional extras at install
The installer asks about PowerDNS, Postfix, Pure-FTPd, Memcached, Redis and a watchdog, so you add only what you need.
How a CyberPanel Server Is Put Together
CyberPanel configures OpenLiteSpeed and the services beside it. Your visitors only meet the web server.
-
Control panel
CyberPanel
The dashboard on port 8090. OpenLiteSpeed's own WebAdmin console is on port 7080.
-
Web server
OpenLiteSpeed
Serves your sites and handles page caching. LiteSpeed Enterprise is a paid alternative.
-
Mail, DNS and FTP
Postfix, PowerDNS, Pure-FTPd
Optional services the installer can set up.
-
Operating system
Ubuntu LTS
CyberPanel runs on x86_64 Ubuntu LTS, AlmaLinux, Rocky, RHEL and CloudLinux.
Engineer's notes
- Run the installer as root over SSH on a fresh server; sudo does not work with it.
- Ubuntu 24.04 is listed as supported until April 2029 and Ubuntu 22.04 until April 2027. The installer is for x86_64 servers.
- LiteSpeed Enterprise is free for one domain and needs a paid licence for more. The OpenLiteSpeed edition has no domain limit.
- Restrict ports 8090 and 7080 to your own IP address; they are admin panels.
- 443HTTPS, your sites
- 80HTTP, redirects to HTTPS
- 22SSH, you only
- 8090CyberPanel, restrict to your IP
What You Can Run
WordPress sites
Sites that benefit from OpenLiteSpeed's caching.
PHP applications
PHP sites on OpenLiteSpeed with the PHP version you choose.
Business email
Mail with Postfix and webmail, if you install it.
Your own DNS
Zones served by PowerDNS, if you install it.
File transfer
FTP accounts for clients and developers.

Manage Docker from the panel next to your sites.
Which Plan for Your CyberPanel Server
Site traffic and which optional services you install decide the size.
VPS-2
4 vCores and 8 GB RAM for the extra services.
A starting point, not a limit: every plan upgrades in place, keeping your data, IP address and configuration.
Installing CyberPanel on Your Server
CyberPanel is not on our standard install list, so by default you install it yourself with root SSH. On a fresh Ubuntu LTS server, the official installer does the work.
-
Start from a fresh server
Log in as root over SSH on a freshly installed Ubuntu LTS and update it.
apt update && apt -y upgrade -
Run the installer
It asks you to choose OpenLiteSpeed or LiteSpeed Enterprise and which optional services to install.
sh <(curl https://cyberpanel.net/install.sh || wget -O - https://cyberpanel.net/install.sh) -
Sign in to the panel
Open the panel on port 8090 with the address and admin details the installer prints.
https://YOUR-SERVER-IP:8090 -
Create your first site
Use the dashboard, or the command line with a hosting package, owner, domain, email and PHP version.
cyberpanel createWebsite --package Default --owner admin --domainName example.com --email [email protected] --php 8.3
Example commands: adjust names, paths and versions to your project. Deploying and maintaining your application is yours to do, or ask us for a quote.
CyberPanel commands you will use every week
Copy, paste, adjust the names. Each one is safe to run as your own user on the server.
Create a website
cyberpanel createWebsite --package Default --owner admin --domainName example.com --email [email protected] --php 8.3

Security and Performance for CyberPanel
Security
- Keep CyberPanel and Ubuntu updated; a hosting panel is a high-value target.
- Restrict ports 8090 and 7080 to your own IP address.
- Use a long, unique admin password and a separate user per client.
- Back up sites and databases and test a restore.
Performance
- Use OpenLiteSpeed's page cache for WordPress sites.
- Add Redis or Memcached object caching on busy sites.
- Install only the optional services you use; each one costs memory.
- Keep databases on the NVMe disk.
